Paula Kowalski (Moers, 1995) has a background in art therapy as well as fine arts and design in education.
In her practice, she tells stories of her surroundings, capturing moments mainly through analog photography and illustrations that reflect her emotional world. Her images offer a glimpse into the generational search for acceptance through vulnerability and connection, in a time when individualism and separation are being encouraged and displayed.
With her background in art therapy and education, she sees art as a reflection of the inner self. She believes that through storytelling, we can learn and grow from one another.
She also transfers her illustrations onto human skin through tattooing — visualizing the stories we want to carry on our bodies and expressing who we are, or who we wish to become.
Workshops
Next to her personal practice, she gives art workshops for all ages. In these workshops, the focus lies on self-acceptance and emotion regulation through art.
She explores both the sense of safety and the confrontation that art materials can evoke. The emphasis lies on playfulness and the process rather than on the finished product itself.
